Munising, Michigan

Not only is Munising, Michigan popular because of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, it is also known for its 17 waterfalls. Some of the waterfalls are just a short hike, while others are a little bit of a jaunt. Some are small and tranquil while others are huge and rushing. My personal favorite is Tannery Falls. It's a short but sometimes slippery trail, and the start of it is kind of hidden from plain sight. We stayed at the Sunset Motel on the Bay and walked directly across the highway and found the trail head. The colors of the sandstone leading to the falls are really awesome. It's not a very big waterfall, but it's really impressive.

Another favorite waterfall of mine is Horseshoe Falls. This waterfall is the only one in Munising that is privately owned. You have to pay a small fee to get to it, but it's well worth it.

Taking a trip to Munising is something you definitely want to put on your list of things to do. Kid Rock did. Take a look at this video. It includes footage of the North Country Trail, Miners Beach and Miners River - which are all in Munising.

  2. How far of a hike is it on average to the waterfalls. What time of the year did you go, or do you recommend. I think it would be awesome to go during the fall! This summer i'm hoping to go see some waterfalls here. :)

  3. I think the average is probably about 2 miles. We went in early summer. If I was to recommend a time to go, I think I would say either late summer or fall. When we were there it was a little chilly and the water was freezing! Lake Superior doesn't usually warm up to comfortable swimming temperature, but it would be nice to at least wade in the water without freezing your feet. I think fall would be an awesome time to go. The colors would be amazing to see!

  4. I enjoyed the music video of Kid Rock plus it is a good song, and has good visuals of munising. The pictures you attached are a beautiful! The first picture almost looks too pretty to be real like something you would see in a movie. The second picture is pretty awesome too it defiantly looks like a place i would like to go visit. When i was in Yellowstone there was some waterfalls i seen but nothing compared to these ones!
